CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail was groomed Wednesday, Feb 25, 2015 from Glen Arbor to Empire.
BEWARE OF VERY COLD CONDITIONS!
Glen Arbor (Forest Haven Road) to Glen Haven – EXCELLENT – Base of about 10 inches of packed snow. Classic tracks on the outside and corduroy in the middle. Soft, fresh snow groomed to perfection!
Glen Haven to the Dune Climb – EXCELLENT. You may want to remove your skis at Glen Haven to cross the road. Base is thin near Glen Haven and at the Dune Climb due to the wind blowing snow off the trail. Just move to the side of the trail into the deeper snow.
From Empire to the Pierce Stocking Drive – EXCELLENT. No classic tracks in this section – just fresh groomed corduroy. There is some drifting in some spots. It has some steep hills, so it is perfect for skate skiers. This section for expert skiers!
The section of trail between the Dune Climb and Scenic Drive has some driveways and steep hills.
