Noquemanon Trail Network Cross Country Ski Report – 02/08
Forestville: Groomers kept at it most of the day yesterday and skiing was great but the snow kept falling so skaters found it a little tough late in the day. With the continued snow we are holding off on the normal post bar close groom and instead going just before the first cow milking at 5 (ish). Depending on the depth we may roll and then groom. Rest assured, we will have a full complement out there before the crow makes his obnoxious presence felt.
For skiers that wish to know exactly when each trail was groomed last please follow this link to our interactive map page. http://www.noquetrails.org/trails/noquemanon We have added a grid and the groomers will update when an individual trail was groomed last. I should add, if you have not used the interactive map you must do so. You “hover” over a trail section and click and a video of skiing that section will launch. It is like magic.
What a great day to ski yesterday. Even the fair weather folks were out today. I was the fat guy with the pack full of maps, drills, screw drivers and signs. Please check out the new trail maps. I should add, if you plan on classic skiing, it is advisable to factor in your pack’s weight (and how much you have gained since you bought your skis) when performing ski prep. I liken it to purchasing clothes. Vain men don’t like Levi jeans because everyone can see they have a 34” waist (sellers of women’s clothes of course have fixed this by giving their product non-judgmental labels like “size 2”). In a similar vein, if you lie to your ski technician, you do it at your own peril. Needless to day, my glide was not ideal.
Road Conditions: The Forestville road is plowed and sanded after all residential areas so expect winter driving every day. The NTN plows after the paved road beyond the rail road crossing. We have plowed the road and the parking lot but bald tires, rear wheel drive and low clearance vehicles will likely have a rough go.
We have pledged to have our plowing/sanding crews out whenever needed. If you find it unplowed or icy please call or email the office. We will get the trucks out asap. In general I expect most passenger cars will be fine but Bald tires, rear wheel drive and low clearance vehicles may still have some difficulty. We will post comments on the road going forward.
