Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail Cross Country Ski Report – 01/24

❄️ Winter Wonderland Alert! ❄️

We’ve been treated to 12-18 inches of fresh, fluffy snow since Wednesday of this week! Our amazing team started the week braving an Arctic blast of cold air and wrapped it up tackling a constant flurry of snowfall. Phew—it’s been an incredible winter adventure for our dedicated volunteers, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their hard work!

The trails are now in FANTASTIC condition, and our crew is heading out today to put the finishing touches on grooming. Get ready to enjoy a beautiful winter weekend out on the trails! Below are details on trail conditions. The @leelauconservancy is grooming Palmer Woods and you can check out their snow reports on their Faceboook page.

Ski Conditions
Pierce Stocking to Empire: Groomers are heading out today (Friday) to re-roll and reset track as it was covered by more fresh snow.

Dune Climb to Pierce Stocking: Currently has been rolled and tracks were set a while ago but have been covered by snow they are re-setting tracks today.

Pierce Stocking to Glen Arbor: Best conditions at this point, rolled and classic track set, los of folks were enjoying both CC and skate skiing yesterday.

Dune Climb Sledding: Conditions look great for sledding! Bring goggles, the snow will be flying as tracks are cut into the snow.
A Huge Thank You to Our Volunteers!

We couldn’t enjoy these trails without your dedication. If you want to express gratitude feel free to post photos and a comment on our social media pages and we will be sure to share it with our team!

FROM Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes >> ❄️ Snow Report ❄️
Our crews had the chance to dust off the Ginsu (pictured above)! This attachment features knives that cut through icy snow, smooth everything out, and lay fresh track. After Monday’s wet, heavy snowfall, our groomers will be out today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) rolling and setting tracks to keep conditions in top shape.
There is a great base everywhere on the trail. Below are details on trail conditions.
Ski Conditions
Dune Climb to Empire: great base, will be track setting and rolling will be happening tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.
Dune Climb to Glen Arbor: great base, track and rolling will be finished by Tuesday afternoon.
Dune Climb Sledding: Conditions look great for sledding! We recommend wear YakTracks or bringing poles as the parking lots and surrounding areas are very icy.
Big thanks to our dedicated trail grooming crew! #sleepingbear #snowphotos #crosscountry #SkiMichigan❄️ Snow Report ❄️

FROM Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes >> ❄️ Weekend Snow Report ❄️
Our crews were out this week maintaining and re-grooming several sections of the trail. On Thursday, the sun came out, and we experienced a slight warm-up, leading to slushy conditions. Thankfully, there’s still a solid base, and with freezing temperatures returning, conditions this weekend will be good but a bit icy.
Get ready to enjoy a beautiful winter weekend out on the trails! Below are details on trail conditions. @LeelanauConservancy is grooming Palmer Woods and you can check out their snow reports on their Faceboook page.
Ski Conditions
Dune Climb to Empire: 6 inch base, good track set and rolled, icy conditions because of freezing temperatures. (Note: we do not groom Pierce Stocking drive, Pierce Stocking is open to cross country skiing and snowshoeing and not groomed.)
Dune Climb to Glen Arbor: 2-4 inch base, good track set and rolled, icy conditions because of freezing temperatures.
Dune Climb Sledding: Conditions look great for sledding! The snow is very packed down and slick. We recommend wearing YakTracks or bringing poles as the parking lots and surrounding areas are very icy. #sleepingbear #snowphotos❄️ Weekend Snow Report ❄️
