Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail Cross Country Ski Report – 01/14

Snow Has Arrived!
We finally got enough snow to start building the base and setting tracks! Our team compacted, rolled, and set classic tracks from Glen Arbor to Empire. The entire trail between Glen Arbor and Empire is also perfect for fat tire biking.
Pictured above: Volunteer Tim Dowd and Executive Director Laura Ann Johnson, who had the opportunity to ride along and assist with grooming from the Dune Climb to Empire.
Ski Conditions
Empire to Glen Arbor: About 6 inches of powder compacted into a 2-inch base. These are the best conditions for skate skiing on our trail so far! With more snow in the forecast, we’re optimistic that the base will continue to grow.
Glen Arbor to Lawr Farm by Wheeler Road: 6 inches of fresh powder. We’re planning to groom this section later this week, aiming to have it ready for the weekend.
Dune Climb Sledding: Conditions look great for sledding today! Snow is covering all the sand.
A Huge Thank You to Our Volunteers!
We couldn’t enjoy these trails without your dedication. If you’re interested in helping out, we’re currently looking for a few more groomers to assist with the North section of the trail from the Crystal River to the Lawr Farm near Wheeler Road.
