Schuss Mountain will be opening for the season this Saturday, December 7!

What a week of weather it’s been! Schuss Mountain has received accumulative snow every day since Thanksgiving. The lake effect machine continues to hold strong over the snowbelt at Schuss, with the arrival of a new weather front, and up to another 6" anticipated to fall before tomorrow morning. Colder temperatures have arrived, with daytime temperatures in the low 20s and overnight tempatures reaching the teens, ushering in round-the-clock snowmaking for the next 48 hours.

Speaking of snowmaking, our snow farmers have been working around the clock for Saturday’s opening, concentrating their efforts on the the purple and magic carpet pods, in addition to strategic areas of the yellow chairlift and face. Both Mother Nature and our snowmaking crew have been going all out—it’s going to be a beautiful, wintry weekend at Schuss! We’ll begin pushing out the snow tomorrow morning (Friday) to determine what all we can open for the weekend, so stay tuned for updates on the exact runs on the Purple and Magic Carpet pods.

Schuss Mountain will be open December 7-8, from 9am to 4:30pm with the the purple chairlift and magic carpet spinning. Early season lift ticket rates will be applicable this Saturday and Sunday, $41 for ages 9-69.

The XC trail system has been rolled and we’ll be track setting what we can tomorrow, once the lake effect machine stops running and the snow has a chance to settle. The Nordic trails will be available for skiing this weekend FREE OF CHARGE, just be sure to sign a release of liability before hitting the trails (there will be a QR code to scan with your phone at the Pinecone Trail trailhead).
